Our logo shows how most of the medicines are discovered and produced in countries of the North and represent a growing expense for countries of the South. The constant increase in their prices translates into a lack of access to life-saving medicines and diverts increasing amounts of resources that should be used to promote the development of communities. A healthy balance must be struck between prices and access to the necessary medicines, avoiding overconsumption.
Necessary medicines for health and life are global public goods, and should be accessible to those who need them. Governments should undertake all the necessary initiatives to facilitate access and its rational use, shielded from the interests of inappropriate consumption, typical of the market dynamics in which they are currently immersed.
